Free Rein Improv Fest - The Search Engine

Workshop topic

Turn life’s smallest questions into scenes bursting with variety and joy.

What you’ll explore

The Search Engine is a scenic format where life’s less important questions are put to an improvised intelligence. Explore how a scene’s theme can quickly become entertainment.

Try different ways to create variety, find joy and move beyond scenes where people simply stand and talk. Discover what gives you the most fun in improv, and how to offer that to your scene partner.

Includes a showcase in the first show on Saturday.

  • Level: Level to be announced
  • With: Jonathan

About main facilitator

Jon Nguyen

Jon Nguyen (he/him) is an experienced improviser and coach. He plays with The Dogface, Michelle - A Hoopla House Team, The Comediasians - the first Pan-Asian improv troupe in the UK, The Improvised Play, and is a member of The Maydays.

He has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as improv festivals throughout Europe and Canada. Jon has trained with Dogface, The Nursery, Hoopla, Dummy, The Maydays, Showstoppers and a wide range of international improv teachers.

Jon believes in inclusivity, connection and fun and brings this into his improv both on and off stage. Jon is of Vietnamese heritage, was born in the UK and uses his lived experience to make his improv both relatable and absurd.

As a self-confessed nerd, he loves all aspects of improv, from theory and performance to devising and technical aspects.
